The Problem
Medication nonadherence affects up to 1 in 4 Americans - that’s 75 million people in the U.S. who don’t take their medications as prescribed. This creates more costs for health systems - untreated patients end up in the ER and the hospital, regulators punish bad outcomes with financial penalties, and every inefficiency creates downstream costs for payers and systems.
Insufficient patient education is a major driver of nonadherence. When a patient picks up a prescription, there is little standardization for required pharmacist counseling on their medications. Patients often leave with nothing more than bland package inserts that end up in the trash. Even before the pandemic, in-person consultations were rare, with patients left waiting on clogged pharmacy phone lines or turning to Dr. Google. Further, as more patients turn to mail-order pharmacy for convenience, digital technologies that supplement the patient-provider gap, such as MedAssent Rx, are increasingly crucial to the healthcare ecosystem.
MedAssent Rx is uniquely positioned to help our clients improve their workflow, minimize costs, and offer better solutions for their patients, especially those most at risk for medication nonadherence.
